Hoeven Opposes Democrats’ $3.5 Trillion Tax-and-Spend Bill

WASHINGTON – Senator John Hoeven today introduced the following amendments to stop the Democrats’ $3.5 trillion tax-and-spend budget bill and prevent harmful tax increases on hardworking Americans. The senator strongly opposes the Democrats’ spending plan.  

“The Democrats’ reckless tax-and-spend legislation will not only raise taxes on hardworking Americans, it comes at a time when inflation is nearly 5.4 percent.Democrats will only make inflation worse with this $3.5 trillion spending package. That’s why I’ve offered a number of common-sense amendments to prevent tax increases on hardworking Americans and to stop the Democrats from passing this reckless tax-and-spend legislation.”

Hoeven is offering a number of amendments to prevent the Democrats from passing their $3.5 trillion legislation and imposing harmful tax increases on farmers and ranchers, energy producers, and other hardworking Americans. Specifically, the senator introduced amendments to reduce the debt and deficit and curtail rising inflation, as well as:

Protect Farmers and Ranchers

  • Prevent any tax increases on farmers and ranchers.
  • Prevent the legislation from increasing the cost of passing down farms and ranches to future generations.
  • Prevent the expansion of the Waters of the U.S. (WOTUS) rule.
  • Prevent Commodity Credit Corporations funds from being used to establish a carbon bank.

Empower Energy Production

  • Enable legislation to prevent electricity blackouts and improve electricity reliability.
  • Prevent a carbon tax.
  • Prevent delays to new oil and gas, coal and other critical mineral development.
  • Prevent legislation from decreasing the availability of U.S. natural gas supplies.
  • Enable legislation to deploy carbon capture, utilization and storage technologies, including enhancing the 45Q tax credit and 48A tax credit.
  • Improve domestic energy security, including directing the Interior Department to hold oil and gas lease sales.
  • Improve the permitting process for the construction of new pipelines.
