LAFAYETTE – Today, U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy, M.D. (R-LA) met with mayors throughout Acadiana to discuss his Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA), among other topics. The IIJA is already making a positive impact throughout the state, funding bridges, airports and flood control projects.

“Met with mayors and spoke about the many positive things that Acadiana has, and how to make these even stronger with the bipartisan infrastructure bill,” said Dr. Cassidy. “Additionally, we discussed the bill just passed to respond to the tragedy in Uvalde, which strengthens Second Amendment rights while providing much needed mental health resources.”

Lafayette Mayor Josh Guillory hosted the roundtable and welcomed Cassidy to Acadiana.

“Thank you to Senator Cassidy for taking the time to visit with some of our officials here in Lafayette and getting feedback on our local needs,” said Mayor Guillory. “Our infrastructure is something we are all passionate about, and your support for Lafayette is greatly appreciated.”

Funds from the IIJA have already been dedicated to infrastructure improvements throughout Acadiana, with more to come. Over $600 million has been dedicated to Louisiana coastal, waterway and flood projects, including in the Atchafalaya Basin, along the Atchafalaya River, the Gulf Coast Intracoastal Waterway, and Southwest Coastal Louisiana Hurricane Protection.

Orphan wells in Acadiana will be addressed, thanks to the IIJA. Additionally, over $2 million was granted to the Lafayette Regional Airport last December, with airports in Abbeville, Crowley, Eunice, New Iberia and Opelousas also receiving hundreds of thousands of dollars.
