WASHINGTON – Senator John Hoeven today issued the following statement after voting against the Democrats’ $3.5 trillion tax-and-spend budget bill. Hoeven opposed the legislation and offered amendments during the resolution’s consideration to try to stop the bill’s advancement, while also putting the Senate on the record on important issues for the nation.

“The Democrats’ reckless tax-and-spend legislation will take our nation in the wrong direction. During the Trump administration we proved that by getting government out of the way and empowering workers and job creators, we can grow the economy at a record pace. Instead, this $3.5 trillion bill will hurt our economic recovery by imposing higher taxes on farmers, ranchers, energy producers and other hardworking Americans, while also hitting consumers and workers with even higher inflation, which is already nearly 5.4 percent. As Democrats try to advance this bill through the budget reconciliation process, we will continue working to stop their harmful spending proposal.”
