Sens. Marshall and Moran Announce Over $1.5 Million in USDA Funding for City of Caldwell
(Washington, D.C., July 7, 2021) – U.S. Senators Roger Marshall, M.D. and Jerry Moran announced a $1,558,000 USDA Rural Development low-interest loan awarded to the city of Caldwell to construct new water storage tanks and update the city’s water pump system that is over 100 years old.
“Through this USDA loan, the City of Caldwell will be able to construct new tanks for elevated water storage within the community,” said Senator Marshall. “Residents must have confidence that their water supply is both safe and reliable. This vital update to the city’s aging infrastructure will provide Caldwell residents with peace of mind for years to come.”
“This federal investment will update Caldwell’s aged water service system and help make certain they have reliable access to safe water,” said Senator Moran. “As a member of the Senate Agriculture Appropriations Subcommittee with jurisdiction over USDA, I will continue to advocate for programs that are important to improve the quality of life in our rural communities.”
Background:
This USDA Rural Development investment will be used to construct a 150,000-gallon elevated storage tank and two, 20,000- gallon above-ground storage tanks. The project will relocate the high service pump station, which allows the city to abandon 2,200 feet of old transmission line. The project will install approximately 650 feet of 8-inch waterline, a new telemetry system, and generators at the wells and high service pump stations for emergency power. This project will replace a 1918 stand pipe and cast-iron transmission line to the city to an underground clear well that is in poor condition and leaking. It will also replace waterlines that are cast iron, service lines that are copper, lead and steel and water meters. Most of the city’s mains are assumed to be over 100 years old and need to be replaced. The city currently does not have a backup power supply for their water service. Once the project is completed, the city will have a safe and reliable system to deliver water to residents of their community.
