Today, Senator Richard Burr (R-NC) released the following statement on the passing of retired four-star general and former U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell:
“I am deeply saddened by the passing of former Secretary Colin Powell. After 35 years of dedicated military service, where he rose to the rank of four-star general, Secretary Powell became a highly-respected and trusted counselor to multiple presidents. His historic career included serving as our nation’s first Black National Security Advisor, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs, and Secretary of State.
“Secretary Powell will be remembered for his legacy of service, leadership, and influence, which shaped American foreign policy for the last 30 years. Most importantly, however, Secretary Powell was a family man, instilling in his children the character and integrity for which he was known. Brooke and I send our deepest condolences and our prayers to Alma and the entire Powell family.”
