WASHINGTON – The Senate Judiciary Committee today advanced the nomination of Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson to be an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court. U.S. Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin (D-IL), Chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee, released the following statement after the Committee vote:

“This is the fourth time the Committee has voted on Judge Jackson in some capacity, a reflection of her extraordinary legal career.  However, it is the first time that the Committee has advanced the nomination of a Black woman to sit on the Supreme Court.  Judge Jackson showed us that she is committed to equal justice under law, and to ensuring that the Constitution works for all Americans.  Today’s vote was historic and I strongly and proudly support Judge Jackson’s nomination.  I look forward to a full Senate vote later this week.”
