Washington, DC — U.S. Senators Joe Manchin (D-WV) and Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV), Ranking Member of the Senate Environment and Public Works (EPW) Committee, both members of the Senate Appropriations Committee, today announced that West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection (WVDEP) will receive $119,000 through the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)’s State Underground Water Source Protection program.
“Every West Virginian deserves clean water to drink and fresh air to breathe. In order to ensure West Virginians have access to clean water, we must continually update and improve our water infrastructure throughout the state. I am pleased the EPA is investing in the West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection to protect the quality of our drinking water sources,” Senator Manchin said. “As the Chairman of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee and as a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, I will continue to advocate for funding to upgrade and improve water infrastructure across the Mountain State.”
“This funding will support WVDEP’s work to ensure underground sources of drinking water are safe and protected,” Ranking Member Capito said. “Support through federal formula funding like this is integral to aiding WVDEP’s mission to protect public and environmental health. As the Ranking Member of the EPW Committee and a leader on the Appropriations Committee, I will continue advocating for and working to secure resources like these for West Virginia.”
