Manchin, Capito Announce $6 Million in USACE Water and Wastewater Infrastructure Grants

Washington, DC — U.S. Senators Joe Manchin (D-WV) and Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV), Ranking Member of the Senate Environment and Public Works (EPW) Committee, both members of the Senate Appropriations Committee, today announced funding for five projects through the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ (USACE) Section 571 environmental infrastructure program, totaling $6,000,000. This funding is made possible through the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act and will help provide reliable water and sewer service.

“Every West Virginian deserves clean water to drink and fresh air to breathe. In order to ensure all West Virginians have access to clean water, we must continue to update and improve our water infrastructure across the state. I successfully fought to include historic investments for water infrastructure and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in the bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, and I am pleased to announce these five new investments in our state,” Senator Manchin said. “As the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources and as a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, I will continue to advocate for funding to upgrade and improve water and wastewater infrastructure across the Mountain State.”

“As the top Republican on the EPW Committee—which oversees USACE—I am thrilled to see these worthy projects get the support they need from the Corps,” Ranking Member Capito said. “Keeping our drinking water and wastewater safe and clean protects both public and environmental health while encouraging economic development. West Virginians can expect more beneficial water and wastewater infrastructure funding like this thanks to the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act.”

Individual awards listed below:

  • $1,500,000 – Northern Jackson County Public Service District Water Distribution System Upgrade Project 
  • $1,500,000 – Pendleton County Public Service District Sandy Ridge Water Extension Project 
  • $1,000,000 – Ripley Sanitary Sewer System Improvement Project (Jackson County)
  • $1,000,000 – Newark Area Wastewater Facilities Improvement Project (Wirt County)
  • $1,000,000 – Central Hampshire Public Service District Purgitsville Project
