Charleston, WV – Yesterday, U.S. Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV) attended a picnic hosted by the United Mine Workers of America (UMWA) in Racine. Senator Manchin joined UMWA President Cecil Roberts and West Virginia miners in honoring the 100th Anniversary of the Battle of Blair Mountain and celebrating Labor Day.
“Yesterday was a wonderful day celebrating Labor Day and honoring hardworking West Virginians and Americans whose social, civic and economic contributions have made America the greatest country in the world. It was a privilege to join UMWA President Cecil Roberts at the picnic and thank West Virginia coal miners for their hard work, dedication and sacrifices they have made to power our great nation,” said Senator Manchin. “Our West Virginia workforce keeps the lights on, educates our children, improves our economy and keeps our communities safe and healthy. I will continue fighting to ensure every working American has safe working conditions, good wages and opportunities to create a strong future.”
