WASHINGTON – U.S. Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin (D-IL) today met with Loukas Kozonis, his guest to today’s Joint Meeting of Congress by His Excellency Kyriakos Mitsotakis, Prime Minister of the Hellenic Republic. Mr. Kozonis is a resident of Bannockburn, Illinois, founding member of the Hellenic American Leadership Council (HALC), and Vice Chair of the Chicago-Athens Sister Cities Committee. Durbin was a member of the leadership escort committee for today’s Joint Meeting.
“It was a great honor to have Chicago’s Loukas Kozonis join as my guest today to hear Greek Prime Minister Mitsotakis address a Joint Meeting of Congress,” said Durbin. “The people of ancient Greece knew the power of democracy and today our two nations are key partners in upholding these values. That vibrancy is also alive in Chicago’s Greek American community, to which Loukas is a notable contributor.”
“This is a historic trip for the Greek Prime Minister and I am honored to be the guest of Senator Durbin – who has not only been a great friend of Illinois’ Greek American community, but has been a leader in advancing the U.S.-Greece bilateral relationship during his time in the Senate,” said Mr. Kozonis.
