WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy, M.D. (R-LA) today announced his opposition the FY 2022 Omnibus Appropriations bill following announcement that, despite tireless efforts by the Louisiana congressional delegation, the bill does not include long overdue disaster supplemental aid for South Louisiana. After the September passage of $600 million in Hurricane Laura and Delta relief for Southwest Louisiana and $5 billion for states impacted by Hurricane Ida, the Louisiana delegation continued to push the Biden administration and their congressional colleagues to deliver additional aid.
“Despite repeated meetings and phone calls with congressional leadership, the administration and the president himself, additional disaster aid was left out of this omnibus budget bill. This is unacceptable to the thousands of families in Louisiana still struggling to recover,” said Dr. Cassidy. “The White House choosing to not include needed and overdue disaster aid in their funding request to Congress was a major blow. In a Democrat party-controlled Washington, formal White House support is critical. I will continue to look for other opportunities to secure this aid. I will not stop trying.”
