[WASHINGTON, D.C.] – U.S. Senator Tammy Duckworth (D-IL) today released the following statement after a federal judge found the City of Chicago liable for violating the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA):

“More than 30 years after the Americans with Disabilities Act was signed into law, I’m incredibly disappointed that the City of Chicago is still in violation of the ADA. Accessible pedestrian signals are critical for people with disabilities to get to work, get to school and move through the city freely. I hope this ruling leads to Chicago implementing these upgrades swiftly and I’ll do what I can from the federal level to support the City of Chicago in getting this done.”

Duckworth authored the All Stations Accessibility Program Act, which is now law as part of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and will provide $1.75 billion over the next five years to help build ramps, install elevators and make other improvements to ensure that all of America’s public transit stations are finally usable for everyone.
