[WASHINGTON, D.C.] — U.S. Senator Tammy Duckworth (D-IL) released the following statement after Senate Republicans blocked the Freedom to Vote Act from moving forward:
“Let’s be clear: voting rights are under threat in states across our nation because Republicans would rather tie themselves to the Big Lie than work together to protect and expand the right of every American to vote.
“The Freedom to Vote Act was an opportunity to give every American the confidence that they could cast their ballot without arbitrary barriers designed to disenfranchise certain voters, like our fellow Americans in the Black, Brown and disability communities. By blocking this bill from moving forward, Republicans have once again shown us that they don’t see Jim Crow 2.0 as an urgent matter—but this is an urgent issue and our work is not done.
“Even in the face of ardent Republican opposition, Democrats won’t stop working to better protect the right of every American to make their voice heard in our democracy.”
