Washington, DC – Senator Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.), The first and only Latina to serve in the Senate, joined Senator Bob Menendez (D-N.J.) and Representative Ritchie Torres (DN.Y.- 15) in the introduction of a bicameral resolution that would recognize the month of June as “Immigrant Heritage Month,” with the purpose of reflecting on and celebrating the achievements and contributions that immigrant communities have made to the history, economy and culture of the United States.

“For many immigrants, the United States represents hope and opportunity. That hope inspired my grandfather, who came here in search of the American Dream. Their sacrifices paved the way for me to be the first Latina senator. Nevada is home to one of the largest immigrant populations in the entire country, filled with hard-working Americans who share their culture and heritage, care for the sick, raise and educate Nevada’s youth, and much more. I am proud to recognize Immigrant Heritage Month to honor and celebrate the contributions of immigrants across our nation. ”

The bicameral resolution celebrates the countless contributions of immigrants who make our country healthier, safer, more diverse, and more prosperous, and recognizes their importance to America’s successes in the future. Likewise, it recognizes immigrants who for more than a year have put their lives and that of their loved ones at risk to save lives and keep our country going during the COVID-19 pandemic.
