Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.) released the following statement reminding Nevada families that hundreds of dollars per month will flow to their bank accounts starting today, thanks to the expanded Child Tax Credit she helped secure in the American Rescue Plan. She again called on Congress to permanently increase this vital tax relief for working families and their children.
Beginning July 15, over 39 million households across the country will get up to $300 per month for children under 6 years old and $250 per month for children age 6-17. This increase will benefit 94% of all children in Nevada and cut child poverty in half across the country.
“Starting today, 634,000 Nevada children will benefit from the Child Tax Credit, with hundreds of dollars coming in every month to support them and their families. This tax credit will make a tremendous difference to working families all across our state, helping Nevadans pay for rent, clothing, or school supplies for their children. I worked hard to make sure the American Rescue Plan would deliver for our families and kids, and more than 94% of Nevada children will benefit from this measure over the coming months.”
The increased Child Tax Credit will:
- Deliver $3,000 annually per child 6-17 years old and $3,600 per child under 6 to roughly 39 million households – covering 65 million children.
- Provide relief for low-income families – including those who have not made enough money to be required to file taxes. Low-income families and those who have not filed taxes can access a simple tool to sign up for the Child Tax Credit at ChildTaxCredit.gov.
- Automatically deposit payments monthly via direct deposit for 80% of eligible families starting on July 15th and through the rest of the calendar year. Families without direct deposit will receive their checks in the mail.
