WASHINGTON – Senator John Hoeven, a member of the Senator Energy and Water Development Appropriations Committee, today announced that the U.S. Department of the Army has awarded a nearly $115 million contract to Ames Construction, Inc. for the construction of the Red River Control Structure, which is a critical part of providing permanent flood protection for the Fargo-Moorhead region.
“The Army Corps is now moving forward on building the Red River Control Structure, marking a major milestone in our efforts to provide permanent, comprehensive flood protection for the region,” said Hoeven. “We’ve been working to construct this first-in-the-nation flood control project for 10 years, and this is an important milestone.”
The contract utilizes funds that Hoeven worked to secure as a member of the Senate Energy and Water Development Appropriations Committee over the past two fiscal years to support the project’s construction. As part of these efforts, Hoeven also worked to provide funding and flexibility to concurrently raise I-29 and begin excavating the Red River Control Structure to save money and keep the project on schedule.
