U.S. Sen. Jim Inhofe (R-Okla.) attended the recent unveiling of a new terminal building at Oklahoma’s Weatherford Stafford Airport. The $1.6 million project, which took 11 months to build, replaces the former terminal that was part of the Stafford Air and Space Museum and is nearly three times larger than the previous terminal.

Sen. Inhofe served as the keynote speaker and led the ceremonial ribbon cutting signifying the bright future of both the Weatherford Stafford Regional Airport and the City of Weatherford. Sen. Inhofe was joined at the ribbon cutting ceremony by General Tom Stafford, ODOT Secretary Tim Gatz, Oklahoma Aeronautics Commission Director Grayson Ardies and Weatherford Mayor Mike Brown.

Sen. Inhofe was honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award in recognition of his many miles flown across Oklahoma and work done for the aviation community, at the ceremony.

“I was proud to help dedicate Weatherford’s new terminal, which will be a significant asset for the surrounding region,” Inhofe said. “Already home to a first-class air and space museum, Weatherford is a growing community because of its forward-thinking policies and prime location in western Oklahoma. This new terminal will empower economic development, support jobs and grow workforce opportunities as it draws new businesses to the area for years to come.”

“This airport is evidence of the advanced commitment by the City of Weatherford for improving aviation infrastructure,” said Transportation Secretary Tim Gatz. “Since the community’s founding, civic leaders and citizens have dedicated their resources and time to invest in pro-growth projects. This airport has become a symbol of the character and integrity that embodies the Oklahoma standard.”

“The Aeronautics Commission was proud to celebrate this momentous occasion for the community of Weatherford with two of Oklahoma’s most celebrated aviation heroes, Senator Jim Inhofe and General Tom Stafford. The terminal building at the Weatherford Stafford Airport represents an opportunity to showcase how Oklahoma’s airports support our state’s second largest and fastest growing industry. On behalf of this amazing industry we hope the event provided a heartfelt and well deserved thank you to Senator Inhofe for all the things he has contributed to aviation in Oklahoma,” said Aeronautics Commission Director Grayson Ardies.
