WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senators Bob Menendez and Cory Booker (both D-N.J.) today announced $9,073,482 from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to support the operations of Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs) across the state.

“Community health centers were on the frontlines of the pandemic, ensuring New Jerseyans had the medical care, treatment, and PPE they needed,” said Sen. Menendez. “This funding will allow these health centers to continue providing affordable and high-quality health care services and keep their patients and staff safe and healthy.”

“By investing in our community health centers, we can expand vital health-care services for families across New Jersey, especially those in underserved communities,” said Sen. Booker. “This federal funding will ensure New Jerseyans have access to quality and affordable health care.”

The following FQHCs received funding:

  1. CamCare Health Corporation                                            $3,304,378
    Camden, Gloucester counties

  1. Ocean Health Initiatives                                                     $3,059,246
    Monmouth, Ocean counties

  1. Paterson Community Health Center                                  $2,709,858

Passaic County

In New Jersey, there are 24 Community Health Centers that operate 137 satellite sites, providing preventive and primary health care services to over a half-million New Jersey residents.

Sen. Menendez authored a provision of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) that requires private insurance plans on the exchange to fully reimburse FQHCs at no less than the same rate as Medicaid in order to ensure the economic vitality of community health centers and properly recognize them for the valuable role they play in the American healthcare system.
