WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senators Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.) and Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.), members of the Senate Appropriations Committee, announced that Cabell Huntington Hospital (CHH) in Huntington, West Virginia will receive $267,000 to expand neonatal services offered at the Neonatal Therapeutic Unit (NTU) at Hoops Family Children’s Hospital. The funding is made possible by a Congressionally Directed Spending (CDS) request secured by Senators Capito and Manchin and is funded through the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA).

“Hoops Family Children’s Hospital in Huntington provides high quality healthcare services for people across West Virginia and has fantastic, hardworking staff members. That was on full display when I visited the facility in 2020 to see the lifesaving services the hospital provides,” Senator Capito said. “I worked hard during the Congressionally Directed Spending process to make sure Hoops received the necessary funding to support important services, which will help expand neonatal services and increase access to resources for our mothers, infants, and young families.”

“The Cabell Huntington Hospital provides essential care for its community, from addressing every day health concerns to providing neonatal care for families in need. That is why I proudly secured this funding to help expand and strengthen the neonatal program at the Hoops Family Children’s Hospital,” Senator Manchin said. “This funding will support the construction of additional treatment rooms, increased support services for pregnant women, renovations to a conference room and more improvements. As a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, I will continue advocating for resources, including earmarks, to support our healthcare organizations as they care for our fellow West Virginians across the Mountain State.”

In total, Senator Capito secured $241,135,000 and Senator Manchin secured more than $166 million in direct spending measures for initiatives and projects across West Virginia through the Fiscal Year (FY) 2022 appropriations omnibus package.
