WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Deb Fischer (R-Neb.), a member of the Senate Commerce Committee, today released the following statement after voting against the CHIPS-Plus Act.

“The CHIPS-Plus Act fundamentally fails to create long-term solutions that fully address critical issues with the semiconductor supply chain and competition with China.

“Even worse, the bill would send billions of taxpayer dollars to private sector companies and dramatically increase federal research spending without the right guardrails or security measures. These major loopholes will make it hard to prevent wasteful spending. It will also be difficult to ensure chip companies do not end up using this infusion of government funding to grow their operations in China,” said Senator Fischer.

The CHIPS-Plus bill would cost $79 billion and authorize more than $200 billion in future spending.
