OKLAHOMA CITY, OK – Senator James Lankford (R-OK) today offered the following statement on the 101st anniversary of the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre that took hundreds of lives and left almost all of North Tulsa in ashes:
“The 31st of May and the 1st of June mark a time of solemn remembrance in our state and nation after the events of the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre left a community in ruins. The residents of Greenwood did not allow that event to define their community. North Tulsa, our state, and our nation lost much during the Race Massacre that claimed lives and property. But we continue to turn tragedy into triumph as we strive for a more perfect union and a brighter future. I remain grateful to the community leaders, churches, and families who are working together to rebuild North Tulsa to its once-vibrant status as a beacon for culture, opportunity, and prosperity. We will continue to remember how those fateful days changed our nation and how we can seek true reconciliation together.”
