Washington, D.C. – This week, Colorado U.S. Senators Michael Bennet and John Hickenlooper joined their Senate colleagues to unanimously adopt a resolution they co-sponsored to mark National Police Week and reiterate support for the men and women in law enforcement.
“I am deeply grateful for our state’s law enforcement officers,” said Bennet. “This National Police Week, we recognize the incredible men and women who protect our communities day in and day out, and honor the officers who we lost in the line of duty. We will never forget their service and sacrifice.”
“Police officers risk their lives every day to protect and serve,” said Hickenlooper. “On National Police Week we say thank you to all the men and women who help keep us safe.”
The resolution honors the 576 law enforcement officers who were killed in the line of duty in 2021, including nine in Colorado. That also includes the nearly 400 officers who died from COVID-19, as well as the 92 lost to date in 2022. In the face of an ongoing pandemic and rise in violent crime, law enforcement personnel continue to answer the call, serving their communities, often at great risk to themselves.
The resolution designates the week of May 15 through May 21, 2022, as “National Police Week,” and expresses unwavering support for law enforcement officers across the United States in the pursuit of preserving safe and secure communities.
