WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senators Bob Menendez and Cory Booker (both D-N.J.) today applauded the bipartisan Senate confirmation of attorney Georgette F. Castner to the U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey. Castner, who was confirmed by a 52-47 vote, is the fifth Biden nominee seated on New Jersey’s federal bench, which had been facing a declared “judicial emergency” due to several longstanding district court vacancies prior to the Biden Administration.
“Today, the Senate the Senate confirmed a fourth U.S. District Court Judge for the District of New Jersey. I’m proud to have recommended Ms. Georgette Fries Castner for this nomination and voted today in support of her confirmation,” said Sen. Menendez. “I’m confident her outstanding qualifications and her commitment to justice will make her an excellent, impartial federal judge. During her 15 years of experience in state and federal litigation, Ms. Castner has gained a reputation as one of the brightest and most hardworking attorneys in our state. I congratulate her for her confirmation as U.S. District Court of New Jersey.”

Until her confirmation, Ms. Castner was a partner at the Cherry Hill law firm of Montgomery McCracken, where she focused on government and white-collar investigations, commercial litigation, and the fast-growing field of cannabis law. As a Co-Chair of the Cannabis Law Practice Group, Ms. Castner regularly advised clients within this emerging industry and has written a number of articles about the complex landscape of disparate federal, state, and local laws and regulations faced by these businesses. Ms. Castner has also a long-standing community service experience serving on the local zoning board of her hometown of Moorestown and working pro-bono on behalf of South Jersey Legal Services, where she successfully led an appeal against the U.S. Social Security Administration on behalf of a child who had been unjustly denied SSI benefits.
Before Castner’s confirmation, the Senate confirmed Christine P. O’Hearn on March 1st. Last year, the Senate confirmed the appointments of Judges Zahid Quraishi, Julien X. Neals and Karen M. Williams to serve on New Jersey’s District Court.
