Klobuchar: “Vladimir Putin has shown what he is, he’s a thug, he’s a despot, he’s shown his colors and the people of Ukraine…have certainly showed their courage, their colors”

WASHINGTON – On Fox News Sunday, MSNBC’s The Sunday Show with Jonathan Capehart, and CNN Newsroom with Jim Acosta, U.S Senator Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) highlighted the importance of strong international coordination and unity in supporting Ukraine, including the U.S. working with global allies to impose crippling sanctions on Russian President Vladimir Putin and his associates.

“Vladimir Putin has shown what he is, he’s a thug, he’s a despot, he’s shown his colors and the people of Ukraine…have certainly showed their courage, their colors,” Klobuchar said on Fox News Sunday. “The fact that we are joining with the rest of the world to hit Putin hard on sanctions makes a big difference economically…I have been actually heartened by the world leaders…working together. And the same thing is happening in our country. That’s how you stand up against [Putin]. He was betting — he was betting we were all going to be divided, that we had no way to come together, and he is seeing the opposite.”

Klobuchar underscored the breadth of the international coalition supporting Ukraine: “Because of our intelligence, the intelligence of Great Britain and other countries calling [Putin] out…the world is with us,” she told Jonathan Capehart on MSNBC’s The Sunday Show. “We have been able to grow this coalition even beyond NATO to countries like Kenya, New Zealand. It’s a joint world effort.”

Klobuchar also emphasized the leadership of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy: “Zelenskyy is motivating his country against all odds to stand up in whatever way they can. And people see that. They see the authenticity of leadership,” she said on CNN Newsroom with Jim Acosta.  “He is rallying his people..and he is putting it forward in a very forceful way that Vladimir Putin is a thug and he should go home and stay out of their country.”
