WASHINGTON, D.C.U.S. Senator Bob Menendez (D-N.J.), a senior member of the Senate Banking Committee, today delivered the following remarks after all the Republican members of the committee boycotted the markup of six nominations, including top posts at the Federal Reserve:

“If our Republican colleagues were as concerned about inflation as they claim to be, they would have joined the markup and made sure that the Fed has the personnel to ultimately have the monetary policy that can rein in inflation and help families save money. However, we have come to the point in which our colleagues on the other side of the aisle will use any attempt to stop the process as a political tactic, even when this only hurts the American people.

“We should have voted on these nominees, particularly to the Fed, so that we can ultimately have a full Fed board that can make the monetary policy decisions, that can improve the lives of Americans and rein in inflation. Senate Republicans’ absence in today’s markup speaks volumes about the hypocrisy of saying they care about inflation, yet they won’t allow the very entities that can make a difference to move forward.”
