WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Senator Richard Shelby (R-Ala.), previous Chairman of the U.S. Senate Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs Committee, today released the following statement regarding the resignation of Jelena McWilliams, Chairman of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation and former longtime counsel on the U.S. Senate Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs Committee:

“Jelena McWilliams, a former trusted adviser and Chief Counsel for the U.S. Senate Banking Committee, served an exceptional tenure as Chairman of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation.  Her vast experience, knowledge of the issues at hand, and integrity equipped her to successfully defend free markets and promote sound financial regulations as Chairman.  I thank Jelena for her many years of public service.”
