(Manchester, NH) – U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) issued the following statement on the retirement of U.S. Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer:
“I want to thank Justice Breyer for his 27 years on the U.S. Supreme Court, more than four decades on the bench and his lifelong dedication to upholding the rule of law. He leaves behind a legacy as a defender of Americans’ First Amendment rights, access to affordable health care and much more,” said Shaheen. “There is so much at stake for Americans today that will be directly affected by the U.S. Supreme Court, from women’s reproductive freedom to safeguarding civil liberties for all Americans and ensuring equal access to the ballot box. Filling a vacancy on the U.S. Supreme Court is one of the most pivotal responsibilities of the President, and I look forward to reviewing President Biden’s choice to follow in Justice Breyer’s footsteps.”
