CRAIGSVILLE, W.Va. – U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.), today hosted her first Girls Rise Up program of 2022 with female students from Richwood Middle and High Schools. Seventh, eighth, ninth, and tenth grade female students participated in the event, where they had the chance to hear from Senator Capito on her personal experiences as a female leader.
Senator Capito launched the West Virginia Girls Rise Up program in 2015 to instill confidence in young West Virginia women and empower them to be strong and kind female leaders. The program focuses on three areas: education, physical fitness, and self-confidence. Today’s program marks the 25th Girls Rise Up event overall.
“I’m so excited to kick off a new year of Girls Rise Up with Richwood Middle and High School students today,” Senator Capito said. “I’m confident these female students at Richwood will go on to be successful, and most importantly, build each other up each and every day. If they dedicate themselves and put their minds to it, there is nothing West Virginia girls cannot do.”
“Richwood High School is honored and thankful to have Senator Capito bring her Girls Rise Up event to our school,” Scott Williams, Richwood High School Principal, said. “It is a great message to our girls that we hope inspires them to be leaders and reach their goals, whatever they may be.”
“Thank you to Senator Capito for bringing the Girls Rise Up program to Richwood Middle School! This was a fantastic way to nurture the perseverance and confidence within our students,” Gene Collins, Richwood Middle School Principal, said. “What an amazing message of empowerment!”
“Nicholas County Schools is honored to have Senator Capito at Richwood High School today to present her Girls Rise Up program,” Dr. Donna Burge-Tetrick, Nicholas County School Superintendent, said. “Empowering girls so that they become strong, successful women is fundamental to the success of our communities, state, and nation. It is the foundation of our educational approach in Nicholas County, and we appreciate Senator Capito’s endeavors to reinforce this to our female students.”
