WASHINGTON – This morning, U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) and a bipartisan group of Senate colleagues held a debrief session with President Biden about their trip to Ukraine to meet with many of the country’s leaders, including President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the Minister of Defense, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Minister of Energy, the Minister of Internal Affairs, and others.
“During this time of extreme Russian provocation, our trip sent a clear message of America’s strong, bipartisan support for Ukraine’s territorial sovereignty. At our meeting with President Biden, my colleagues from both sides of the aisle and I expressed concern about the ongoing threat of a Russian attack and discussed how sanctions and other consequences can be used to protect Ukraine’s democracy,” said Klobuchar.
Earlier this week, Klobuchar and a bipartisan group of colleagues, including Senators Rob Portman (R-OH), Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH), Chris Murphy (D-CT), Kevin Cramer (R-ND), Roger Wicker (R-MS), and Richard Blumenthal (D-CT), traveled to Kyiv, Ukraine to meet with President Zelenskyy.
Last week, Klobuchar and 38 of her colleagues introduced legislation to impose steep costs for Russia in the event of a renewed Kremlin invasion of Ukraine.
