WASHINGTON, D.C. — U.S. Senators Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.), Ranking Member of the Senate Environment and Public Works (EPW) Committee, and Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.), both members of the Senate Appropriations Committee, today announced West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection (WVDEP) will receive $385,000 from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). The funding will be used specifically to support the state’s water pollution control program, which aims to maintain, protect, and improve the water quality of its rivers, lakes, streams, groundwater, and other waterbodies.

“This funding will help WVDEP improve water quality in our state’s numerous rivers, lakes, and streams,” Ranking Member Capito said. “Cleaner bodies of water increase overall environmental health, which helps ensure our state stays wild and wonderful for generations to come.”

“Ensuring West Virginia’s rivers, lakes and other bodies of water are clean continues to be one of my top priorities. I am thrilled EPA is investing in the West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection to control pollution and improve water quality across the Mountain State,” Senator Manchin said. “I successfully fought to include historic investments for water infrastructure in the bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act that will help ensure every West Virginian has access to clean drinking water and will help keep our state’s public lands and bodies of water wild and wonderful for generations to come.”
