WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) announced that the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Rural Development program has awarded a $1,258,000 loan and a $1,472,000 grant to the Allen Water District in Allen County for the East Regional Waterline Improvement Project. This funding will help provide water services to the Village of Harrod, the Village of Lafayette, and the Allen East School complex. The project will also construct a 12-inch transmission line that will provide municipal water service to the villages and school which currently rely on private wells. Funding will also be used to install fire hydrants to improve public safety.
“Strong water and sewer infrastructure is critical to Ohio communities’ ability to stay both healthy and economically competitive,” Brown said. “This funding will improve access to safe and clean water for residents in Allen County. I will continue to advocate for resources so that Ohioans in small and rural communities have equal access to clean water and economic opportunity.”
USDA’s Rural Development Investment program provides grants and loan guarantees to help create jobs, support economic development and provide essential services. Funding helps agricultural producers and cooperatives improve the effectiveness of their operations.
Brown has been a leader for Ohio’s rural communities, fighting to secure crucial funding for USDA grant and loan programs. He is the first Ohioan to serve on the Senate Agriculture Committee in more than 50 years.
