WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) today announced that the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) has awarded $986,293 to the City of Cleveland through the Byrne Criminal Justice Innovation (BCJI) Program. Funding will support the Buckeye-Woodhill Safety Collaborative which aims to reduce crime, build trust between law enforcement and the Cleveland community, and work with stakeholders to create collaborative projects to improve public safety.

“Safe communities depend on well-trained and equipped law enforcement officers,” Brown said. “This grant is a critical investment to secure new resources for officers and work with the community to address local crime.”

Funding provided by BCJI is given to local police departments to support projects that reduce serious and violent crime, including gun violence. BCJI grants allow for communities to build trust and support law enforcements agencies working to implement community-based strategies.
