He was a real leader in the media who commanded wide respect, not just for his leadership of the Post’seditorial board at a pivotal time in our nation’s history, but for his intelligence, humor, and willingness to listen that made him such enjoyable company every time I met with him. His passing is a real loss for anyone who cares about American journalism, and my thoughts are with his wife and family.”
