U.S. Sen. Jim Inhofe (R-Okla.), ranking member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, today released the following statement after the Department of State confirmed that the Russian Federation conducted an anti-satellite missile test that generated debris jeopardizing American assets in space:

“Putin’s reckless behavior continues. On the heels of his aggressive military buildup at the Ukrainian border, Putin is yet again acting in deliberately provocative ways. This dangerous test has put at least 1,500 trackable objects in close proximity to countless commercial and government satellites that we rely on to keep our economy moving and our country safe — not to mention the international space station, an enduring symbol of international cooperation. I’m grateful that U.S. Space Command is tracking the aftermath of this irresponsible test, but the Biden administration must make it clear to Putin, in no uncertain terms, that this is unacceptable. It is precisely because of threats like these that I worked with then-President Trump to create the Space Force.”
