PADUCAH, Kentucky – U.S. Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) and Congressman James Comer (KY-01) joined state and local leaders in Paducah today to break ground on Barkley Regional Airport’s new terminal project.

Barkley Regional Airport received $32 million in federal funding to construct its new terminal and apron through the Federal Aviation Administration’s (FAA) Airport Improvement Program (AIP) discretionary funding, entitlement funds, and CARES Act relief funding. Senator McConnell and Congressman Comer contacted the FAA in support of the discretionary grants, and later contacted the FAA to ensure the complete and timely delivery of funding installments.

“The supply chains and transit routes that run through our state keep America on the move. By building this new terminal, we are cementing our critical competitive advantage as a national leader in modern transportation infrastructure,” said Senator McConnell. “As the only congressional leader not from New York or California, I am fully aware of the vital importance of regional hubs like Paducah. I was proud to use my leadership position to help this project in any way I could and stand alongside Representative Comer while he did the same in the House of Representatives.”

“I’m glad to see this exciting new project get off the ground and look forward to seeing the positive economic benefits that a new airport terminal will have on the Paducah region,” said Congressman Comer.
