[WASHINGTON, D.C.] — U.S. Senator Tammy Duckworth (D-IL) and U.S. Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin (D-IL), Chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee, today released the following statement on President Biden nominating LaDon Reynolds to serve as U.S. Marshal for the Northern District of Illinois:

“We applaud President Biden for nominating a seasoned law enforcement veteran in LaDon Reynolds to serve in this important role. Since 1994, Chief Reynolds has held several high-ranking positions for the Oak Park Police Department. He has the experience to succeed and help keep our communities and our federal judiciary safe. We will advocate for his swift confirmation in the Senate.”

Earlier this year, Duckworth and Durbin established three screening committees to review candidates for U.S. Marshal positions in Illinois.  Their screening committees are comprised of distinguished members of Illinois’ legal community, including former judges, prosecutors, defenders, litigators, academics, legal aid attorneys, and law enforcement leaders.

The committees carefully evaluated candidates by reviewing their professional records and application questionnaires, contacting references, and conducting interviews, and submitted their findings and recommendations to the Senators.  Duckworth and Durbin interviewed the finalists, reviewed their records, and consulted with each other regarding their qualifications.  Chief Reynolds was recommended to the Senators by their Northern District of Illinois screening committee, and the Senators recommended Chief Reynolds to the White House.

Now that President Biden has submitted this nomination to the U.S. Senate, it will be reviewed by the Senate Judiciary Committee, of which Durbin is the Chair, and the nominee will ultimately receive a vote in the Committee. If the nomination is approved by the Judiciary Committee, the nominee will receive a vote by the full Senate.

LaDon Reynolds has served as the Chief of Police and the Emergency Preparedness Coordinator for the Oak Park Police Department in Illinois since 2019, and has served in the Oak Park Police Department since 1994. Chief Reynolds has held numerous leadership positions while at the Department, including Detective Commander from 2010 to 2017, Deputy Police Chief from 2017 to 2018, and Acting Chief of Police from 2018 to 2019.
