WASHINGTON – U.S. Senators Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) and Tina Smith (D-MN) issued the statements below following President Biden’s nomination of Andy Luger to serve as U.S. Attorney and Eddie Frizell to serve as U.S. Marshal for Minnesota.

“Andy Luger is a dedicated public servant and an excellent candidate for Minnesota’s U.S. Attorney. He previously led the United States Attorney’s office for the District of Minnesota, and in that role he took on sex traffickers and major white collar offenders. He also built positive relationships in communities across the state. During his previous tenure, he led a team of prosecutors, local police, and federal investigators to put Jacob Wetterling’s killer behind bars, a case that had eluded law enforcement for decades,” said Klobuchar.

She continued: “Eddie Frizell also has a strong track record of serving Minnesota and our nation. He brings nearly 30 years of experience in law enforcement and is a 30-year veteran of the Minnesota Army National Guard, including two overseas deployments to Bosnia and Kuwait/Iraq. Throughout his career he has led by example, immersing himself in his communities and becoming what the Star Tribune called a ‘model of persistence.’

“I’m confident that Andy and Eddie will serve our state with distinction as Minnesota’s U.S. Attorney and U.S. Marshal and I look forward to supporting them through the confirmation process.”

“Andrew Luger and Eddie Frizell are exceptionally well-qualified to lead federal law enforcement efforts in Minnesota. I am confident that their experience, dedication to public service, and commitment to justice will help them lead the offices of the U.S. Attorney and U.S. Marshal for Minnesota with integrity. I look forward to working with my colleagues to ensure a swift confirmation process,” said Smith.

In February, Klobuchar and Smith announced the formation of a selection committee of distinguished people to assist them in making recommendations to the President for candidates to serve as U.S. Attorney and U.S. Marshal for Minnesota. The Committee was chaired by John Choi, Ramsey County Attorney.
