Washington, D.C.—U.S. Senator Susan Collins announced today that she secured $1,381,400 to expand substance abuse prevention and treatment services in the draft Fiscal Year 2022 Health and Human Services Appropriations bill that has been released by the Senate Appropriations Committee. The legislation must still be voted upon by the full Senate and House.
“A record 504 Mainers died from drug overdoses in 2020, but a variety of organizations across Maine are stepping up to meet community needs and battle the opioid crisis through an all-of-the-above approach,” said Senator Collins. “By supporting prevention, treatment, and recovery programs, this funding will expand vital assistance to individuals across Maine who are struggling with addiction. As the appropriations process moves forward, I will continue to champion this investment that will help support Mainers and combat the opioid crisis.”
Details on the four Maine substance abuse prevention and treatment projects Senator Collins requested are below:
Milestone Recovery’s Detoxification Program
Location: Portland, ME
Amount: $690,000
Purpose: To support Milestone’s substance use services, including the establishment of an Intensive Outpatient Program.
Northern Light – Mercy Hospital McAuley Women’s Recovery Program
Location: Bangor, ME
Amount: $510,000
Purpose: To support the renovation of a facility to better support women in recovery from substance use disorders with clinically-oriented recovery services.
City of Augusta’s Project Recovery Pilot Program
Amount: $264,000
Purpose: To implement a pilot program centered on improving treatment and recovery resources
for people struggling with for substance use disorders.
York Hospital Recovery Center: Opioid Treatment, Prevention & Recovery Supports
Location: York, ME
Amount: $155,000
Purpose: To expand substance use disorder prevention efforts, improve access to treatment, and strengthen recovery resources and supports in southern Maine.
