U.S. Senator Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) issued the following statement after Taiwan was threatened by China during the largest ever incursion by China’s air force into Taiwan’s Air Defense Identification Zone (ADIZ) with 56 aircraft:
“This latest action by China, threatening the island of Taiwan, makes clear that China intends an adversarial, provocative relationship with Taiwan, those that support it, and those that value personal freedoms. It should not be this way. While the Chinese Communist Party continues to use ideologically driven nationalism backed by antagonizing displays of military force in the hopes of intimidating Taiwan’s Government, the Taiwanese people, and its supporters will not waver in the face of senseless aggression. If the U.S. stands for democracy, free trade, and personal and civil liberties then we, along with our allies, must remain steadfastly behind Taiwan. I will continue to find ways to support Taiwan, and encourage my colleagues and this administration to do the same.”
