Washington, D.C.—U.S. Senator Susan Collins announced that the nomination of Assistant U.S. Attorney Darcie McElwee to be U.S. Attorney for the District of Maine was approved by the Senate Judiciary Committee by voice vote on Thursday, September 30th.  Her nomination now awaits consideration by the full Senate.  Senator Collins and Ms. McElwee are both natives of Caribou.

“As an Assistant U.S. Attorney, Darcie has worked tirelessly to keep Mainers safe from violent crime and achieve justice for victims,” said Senator Collins.  “Her nearly two decades of experience as a career prosecutor make her extremely well qualified to be U.S. Attorney for the District of Maine.  I am pleased that Darcie received bipartisan support in committee, and I will work with my colleagues to advance her nomination to fill this important position so that she can continue her distinguished service to our state and our country.”

Ms. McElwee has been an Assistant U.S. Attorney since 2002.  She is a member of the Maine Trial Lawyers Association and a past president of the Cumberland Bar Association.  She has served on the adjunct faculty of the University of Maine School of Law and at the Maine Trial Lawyers College of Advocacy.  She primarily prosecutes violent crime cases such as sex trafficking, interstate domestic violence, and child sexual exploitation, as well as firearms and arson cases.

Ms. McElwee is a graduate of Bowdoin College and the University of Maine School of Law.
