WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown (D-OH) announced that the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) has awarded COVID-19 relief grants to eight universities and organizations to help their respective communities recover from the economic burdens caused by the pandemic. These funds will assist humanities programs and institutions in their reopening efforts, as well as support the humanities workforce. These awards are made possible through funding included in the American Rescue Plan, which Brown helped write and pass.

The humanities play an important role in our understanding of the world, and the industry was hit particularly hard during this pandemic. Thanks to the funds allocated in the American Rescue Plan, these cultural and educational institutions will be able to continue supporting their workforce and providing a vital service to communities for generations to come,” said Brown.

The below universities and organizations will receive:

  • $50,000 to Allen County Historical Society in Lima
  • $499,424 to Cincinnati Museum Center in Cincinnati
  • $63,248 to Cleveland Restoration Society, Inc. in Cleveland
  • $50,000 to Dennison Railroad Depot Museum, Inc. in Dennison
  • $23,285 to Miami University in Oxford
  • $49,558 to Ohio Wesleyan University in Delaware
  • $482,338 to Toledo Museum of Art in Toledo
