WASHINGTON – Today, U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy, M.D. (R-LA) released a statement following the Senate passage of disaster relief aid as part of a clean continuing resolution (CR) to fund the government until December 3rd, 2021. Cassidy helped secure supplemental disaster assistance that includes aid for victims of natural disasters including Hurricanes Ida, Laura, Delta and the severe winter storms from earlier this year. The CR also includes an extension for the National Flood Insurance Program. Cassidy successfully demanded the Senate pass a clean disaster relief aid and CR that does not include raising the debt ceiling.

“Louisiana will finally get the disaster relief we need,” said Dr. Cassidy. “This is critical for our communities and people to rebuild their lives. It took too long, especially for those in southwest Louisiana, but getting this done is a huge win for our state.”

Background
Cassidy has repeatedly called for disaster relief, including three appeals to colleagues on the Senate Floor. Cassidy and the Louisiana Congressional Delegation also urged the need for disaster relief earlier this month.

Cassidy slammed Senate Democratic Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) for sabotaging earlier attempts to pass a disaster supplemental by attaching a debt limit increase to fund Democrats reckless tax and spending agenda.
