WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Jacky Rosen (D-NV), Chair of the Senate Subcommittee on Tourism, Trade, and Export Promotion, released the following statement applauding news that the Biden Administration will begin lifting travel restrictions in November for fully vaccinated foreign travelers seeking to fly to the U.S.

“The Biden Administration’s announcement that the United States will soon begin taking safe, practical steps to lift foreign travel restrictions with proof of vaccination is welcome news, ushering in a policy that will provide a much-needed boost to Nevada’s travel and tourism economy,” said Senator Rosen. “Since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, I have fought to revive and support Nevada’s travel, tourism, and hospitality industry through these challenging times. As Chair of the Senate Subcommittee that oversees tourism policy, I encourage the Biden Administration to proactively increase safe international travel and welcome more visitors from across the globe to our state.”

BACKGROUND: Senator Rosen is the Chair of the Senate Subcommittee on Tourism, Trade, and Export Promotion. In May, the Rosen-led Subcommittee held a hearing to examine the economic impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on international travel to the United States, with a particular focus on the ripple effects to other industries, such as hospitality and tourism.

Last month, Senator Rosen voted to pass the bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act. As part of the bipartisan group that drafted the Senate-passed landmark legislation, Rosen played a leading role in writing the section on airports and ensuring support for travel and tourism. The bipartisan bill includes $25 billion in overall investment for airport infrastructure and also includes the text of Senator Rosen’s bipartisan Travel Optimization by Updating and Revitalizing Infrastructure to Support Mobilization (TOURISM) Act, which requires the Department of Transportation to update its National Travel and Tourism Infrastructure Strategic Plan to develop an immediate-term and long-term strategy for using infrastructure investments to revive the travel and tourism economy in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.
