WASHINGTON – U.S. Senators Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) and Tina Smith (D-MN) announced that the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) has awarded the Duluth International Airport a grant of more than $7 million for infrastructure improvements.

“Critical investments in our infrastructure serve as a down payment on the long-term economic well-being of our state and country,” Klobuchar said. “By investing in the Duluth Airport, a leading gateway to travel for the upper Midwest, we are supporting the economy of the region and enhancing public safety.”

“If we’re going to build an economy that works for everyone, we need to prioritize investments in local airports that connect people with opportunities,” Smith said. “This federal grant will help residents, businesses and tourists get to where they need to go by improving a taxiway at the Duluth International Airport. I’m going to keep fighting for federal dollars that back Minnesota priorities like this.”

The DOT grant funding will allow Duluth International Airport to improve its infrastructure by reconstructing a taxiway.
