BISMARCK — U.S. Senator Kevin Cramer (R-ND), a Senate Environment and Public Works (EPW) Committee member, praised today the recent appointment of North Dakota’s Director of Department of Environmental Quality Dave Glatt to the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Local Government Advisory Committee (LGAC), where he will sit on the LGAC’s Small Communities Advisory Subcommittee (SCAS). Senator Cramer nominated him for the appointment this year.

“North Dakotans are the experts at how to protect the environment without limiting American innovation or production,” said Senator Cramer. “Dave is well-suited to provide a comprehensive perspective on behalf of our state. I thank Administrator Regan for listening to my recommendation and giving North Dakotans a seat at the table. I hope he and his agency listen to our state’s input.”

“I’m honored to welcome this diverse, highly qualified group of local leaders who will bring valuable insight and experience to the Agency,” said EPA Administrator Michael Regan. “EPA is counting on their input and collaboration to help achieve our mission to protect public health and the environment in every zip code. From tackling climate change to advancing environmental justice, we need local partners at the table to address our most pressing environmental challenges.”

The LGAC provides independent policy advice to the EPA Administrator on a wide range of environmental issues affecting local governments, and SCAS was established in 1996 to advise the Administrator on environmental issues of concern to the residents of smaller communities.

Mark Fox, Chairman of the Mandan, Hidatsa, and Arikara (MHA) Nation, was reappointed to the board as well.

“Congratulations to Chairman Fox on his well-deserved reappointment,” said Senator Cramer. “I thank him for his willingness to engage with our federal partners and am glad an energy-producing tribe in our state will continue using this opportunity to provide its important perspective on energy and environmental issues.”
