Las Vegas, Nev. – U.S. Senator Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.) issued the following statement on the U.S. military withdrawal from Afghanistan.

“I join Nevadans and all Americans in thanking the brave men and women who served our nation in Afghanistan. My heart goes out to the service members who died in the line of duty as well as their family members and communities who continue to mourn the loss of our American heroes.

“My focus remains on getting Americans and our Afghan allies out of Afghanistan and out of harm’s way, and I expect the administration to work with me and my colleagues to finish that mission. We made a commitment to protect our citizens and the allies who fought alongside our troops, and that must be honored.

“Keeping Americans safe must be our top priority. Going forward, that means addressing the immediate terrorist threat in the region and implementing a long-term strategy to protect our national security.”
