BISMARCK – U.S. Senator Kevin Cramer (R-ND), a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, joined Senator John Cornyn (R-TX) on a bicameral letter to President Joe Biden pressing him to outline his plan following the Taliban takeover of Afghanistan.

“The consequences of withdrawal from Afghanistan are not isolated to that country, or even to the Middle East region,” the senators wrote. “The withdrawal carried geopolitical and strategic consequences that have already begun to unfold and will reverberate for decades. Dealing with these consequences means that we must take action now to chart the course for American strategy, while we manage the immediate repercussions of this self-inflicted crisis in Afghanistan. We do not have the luxury of time to sit by watching in resignation as the aftershocks of this crises shake the world.”

The senators outlined 14 specific questions for the president which include issues relating to Al Qaida and ISIS-K, the Chinese Communist Party and Pakistan, the Taliban obtaining a nuclear weapon, and the evacuation of Americans, Afghan Special Immigrant Visa (SIV) applicants, and other vulnerable Afghans.

Senators Cramer and Cornyn are joined on the letter by Senators Cindy Hyde-Smith (R-MS), Joni Ernst (R-IA), Tim Scott (R-SC), Rick Scott (R-FL), Lindsey Graham (R-SC), Jerry Moran (R-KS), Steve Daines (R-MT), John Boozman (R-AR), Rodger Marshall (R-KS), and John Hoeven (R-ND), as well as 57 members of the U.S. House of Representatives.
