WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown (D-OH) announced that the Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) has awarded a $250,000 grant to Mercy Health to upgrade existing MRI equipment at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Youngstown.

“Communities across Ohio face a heavy burden when financing infrastructure projects, including health care facilities,” Brown said. “This project will bring important health care resources to Youngstown and will ensure that hospital personnel have the resources they need to provide quality care to their patients.”

These funds will allow Mercy Health to significantly increase its capacity to quickly and accurately diagnose and treat patients, leading to improved patient health outcomes and a healthier and more productive workforce.

In addition to the $250,000 grant from ARC, local funds will provide $439,990 to bring the total funding amount to $689,990.

ARC is an economic development agency of the federal government with the mission to build community capacity and strengthen economic growth in the Appalachian region.
