WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown (D-OH) announced that the United States Department of Transportation’s (DOT) Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has awarded three grants to Southwest Ohio airports, totaling $150,000. The funds will go towards operations, personnel, cleaning, sanitization, janitorial services, debt service payments, and combating the spread of pathogens at the airport.
“These grants are important to ensure that airports across Southwest Ohio have the resources they need to begin recovering from the coronavirus pandemic,” said Brown. “This funding will help airports combat the spread of pathogens, which is crucial to ensure both passengers and airport employees remain safe and healthy while traveling, especially as we see the rise of the Delta variant across the U.S.”
DOT funds include:
- $59,000 grant to the City of Dayton to provide economic relief funds for costs related to operations, personnel, cleaning, sanitization, janitorial services, debt service payments, and combating the spread of pathogens at the Dayton-Wright Brothers Airport.
- $59,000 grant to the City of Springfield to provide economic relief funds for costs related to operations, personnel, cleaning, sanitization, janitorial services, debt service payments, and combating the spread of pathogens at Springfield-Beckley Municipal Airport.
- $32,000 grant to the City of Sidney to provide economic relief funds for costs related to operations, personnel, cleaning, sanitization, janitorial services, debt service payments, and combating the spread of pathogens at Sidney Municipal Airport.
The FAA supports public-use airports included in the National Plan of Integrated Airport Systems (NPIAS) through the Airport Improvement Program. The program supports projects that improve airport safety, capacity, security and environmental impact. More information about the FAA’s Airport Improvement Program can be found here.
