HARTFORD—U.S. Senator Chris Murphy (D-Conn.), a member of the U.S. Senate Foreign Relations Committee, on Friday welcomed Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign Minister of Qatar, and Chairman of the Qatar Investment Authority Mohammed Al-Thani to Hartford for a roundtable discussion with business leaders from across the state on investment opportunities in Connecticut and U.S.-Qatar cooperation.

“Part of the reason I chose to serve on the Foreign Relations Committee was so I could advocate for our state’s interests around the world, and I was glad to welcome Foreign Minister Al-Thani to Hartford to showcase Connecticut’s growing economic strength. Today’s conversation brought together business leaders from all over the state who highlighted their innovative work across industries from green energy to biotechnology. Foreign investment is a key part of our state’s growth strategy and my belief is that today we seeded some important conversations between Qatar and Connecticut business that will bear fruit soon,” said Murphy.
